The prestigious 4 star, malaria free, Aquila Private Game Reserve stands in an area of 4,500 hectares of Southern Karoo Highlands encapsulating breathtaking majestic mountains, rivers, valley's and kloofs.

Aquila is close to Cape Town, a mere 90 minutes from the City Centre on the N1 National Road. Aquila is named after the rare & endangered Black Eagle that thrives in the area.

Aquila is situated on the national flower route and has several hectare of mountain Protea. The land can be divided into three separate biomes - Fynbos, Renosterveldt and succulent Karoo. From July through September the Reserve displays a splendid Technicolor carpet of Karoo flowers.

The purity of the night sky has been described by one visitor as, "A bouquet of diamonds as I have never seen before."

During 2003 Aquila has started with the re-introduction of Lion, Buffalo and Crocodiles in the reserve.
The game at Aquila includes:

Ostriches
Gemsbok & other indigenous game.

Birdlife:
Aquila and its huge natural wetland is home to 172 species of birds and is also home to several breeding pairs of the rare and endangered Black Eagle, after which the Reserve has been named.

Conference Centre/ Boma Restaurant & Cigar Bar:
The Conference Centre, Boma Restaurant & Cigar Bar, as with the Luxury Cottages, are built from natural materials found on the Reserve such as rocks, river pebbles, reeds, wood and thatch to blend with the surrounding environment.

The Conference Centre can comfortably accommodate 40-80 delegates for a myriad of function formats.

Cuisine:
Aquila offers a truly South African culinary experience that affords a varied menu to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.

Rooms
Guests have two options of accommodation at Aquila:
Standard Cottages designed in a unique Eco-country style. Each Cottage comes with its own private patio and braai area.
Luxury Eco-friendly Cottages - Rock Bathrooms & Outdoor Rock Showers

Both offer roaring log fireplaces (perfect for the Cape winter). All cottages have en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, fireplaces and mini-bars.

The Honeymoon Suite boasts a Jacuzzi with spectacular views across the Reserve.

On every game drive at least one of the several Khoi San Bushman rock art painting sites, dating back up to 10,000 years, are to be experienced and more recently an archaeological dig discovered a Bushman Tool manufacturing site that uncovered hundreds of artefacts.

How to get there
Take the N1 from Cape Town.
10km before Touwsriver turn left onto the R46 to Ceres.
Entrance 2km on the left.
