Some five generations ago our families settled in the Eastern Cape to farm sheep and cattle on the wild and often hostile frontier of the Zuurveld. Today we still live here, in historic and hospitable Frontier Country, recreating a wild life experience, which will capture your imagination, refresh your soul and converse our natural heritage. Our hills and valleys tell of old conflicts and the bush holds its secrets, but now the haunting cry of the fish eagle echoes from the rugged krantzes and the veld grass whispers with the passing of peaceful game, where you too, can return to nature.

Only 40 minutes East of Port Elizabeth in the Greatest Addo Area you will find this exciting private game reserve called Amakhala, named after the isiXhosa word for aloes.

A game drive through Amakhala Game Reserve will leave you in awe of the diverse vegetation and spectacular scenery which abounds here. Sunlit grassy savannah plains, a mosaic of Valley Bushveld plants, the gently dappled of the sand forest, many watering holes and the wide spellbinding Bushman’s River. This is home to great African mammals, birds and insects. It will humble and fascinate you.

Amakhala Game Reserve is a successful conservation project which has seen the reintroduction of elephant, white rhinoceros, giraffe, cheetah, zebra, wildebeest and many antelope species. Your professional guide will give you a holistic interpretation of the ecology of the ecology of the land and history of the people.

The Safari Lodge is tucked away in a valley of indigenous bush on the northern boundary of the 5500ha Amakhala Game Reserve ans Addo Elephant National Park, its location is ideal for the best wildlife viewing South African has to offer. In their endeavor to achieve a holistic safari experience, the landscape and elements of African tribal design guided owners and artists, Mike and Justine Weeks. This intimate thatched lodge with its unique safari huts offers all the comforts of a graded four star lodge and is an undisturbed retreat where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature.

Canvas drop blinds open up the safari huts and the central lounge to views of a small waterhole where monkeys come to play and antelope and zebras to quench their thirst. You can soak away the heat in a luxurious double bath with the sights and sounds of nature or splash off the dust in a double outdoor shower. The Safari Lodge’s warm hospitable environment and the personal touch from friendly staff will create unforgettable memories.
